Scanning Documents Quickly

If you have a huge pile of papers you need to scan, the last thing you want to do is to have to place them one by one on the scanner. This is where document scanners become a necessity. These scanners have a port for feeding documents into the scanner called the ADF or automatic document feeder.

Most people are probably use to an ADF feature for copying but the same feature can also be used for scanning. And it can be a life-saver or a sanity-keeper depending on how you roll. Just place your stack of documents into the feeder and off you go. The scanner will handle the rest.

Portable Scanners to the Rescue!

Sorry, but I just think portable scanners are really cool. Especially the wand scanners which can be easily carried to the library and used to scan all kinds of stuff. Digital capturing and conversion are my passion. And I dig these scanners.

Converting Slides to Digital

Many years ago, around the 1960s, people were gathering friends and family members around their living rooms to view slides from a recent trip or holiday. And as digital computers and cameras become prominent, the tradition slowly died. However, many of these slides are still available in the many people`s homes. Indeed, it is sad that these slides, especially the fragile ones are prone to wear and decay.

However, people should not lose those valuable memories forever. They should capture the spirit of their photos forever. The best way to ensuring the longevity of your photos is converting slides to digital formats so that they can be seen on a PC screen. With advancements in technology, it is easier to do that at home today.

In fact, doing that at home is much cheaper compared to expert slide conversion services. The only expenses that you will incur are just the initial outlay for slide scanner & slide preparation equipment.

Most slide converters work like computer scanners. You connect the slide converter to your computer. Then insert a slide into a slide converter where it will be computerized using a CCD which is similar to the ones found in the digital cameras. The photos will be sent to your computer where some special software will allow them to be enhanced digitally, and then burnt to DVD or save to a hard drive.

Generally, these are some of the things that you should know when converting slides to digital at home.

Cutting Cable

Here is something cool. After a few decades of having cable TV I finally made the break and cancelled my service. Why, you ask? Because the cost was getting so high and I don’t even watch it that much. In fact, I often just watch because it is there but there really weren’t many shows that I actively follow.

Of course, there are many other options for watching TVs and movies in this age of streaming media. I can get both Netflix and Hulu for about a quarter of what I was paying in cable costs. And there are newer offerings that live stream like SlingTV, Vue and DirecTV. At this point I am trying some of these services out to see what I like best for the cheapest cost.

If you haven’t considered “cutting the cord”, I suggest you look at your current bill and see how much you spend. It’s scary how those cable bills creep up over time, especially if you aren’t paying attention.

Make Money on Photos

There are a variety of job fields that are conducive to freelance work. These jobs do not require one’s presence in an office but instead, the work can be done from just about anywhere and submitted for pay. Writers, photographers and web designers are three such groups of professionals who often do full-time or part-time freelance work.

But the area of freelance work has really taken off with the advent of the internet. A professional freelancer or even just an amateur can secure jobs or earn a few extra dollars through access to millions of potential clients and buyers worldwide right through their computer. This is particularly true of photographers.

When you combine the advancements in digital photography (or photo scanners) with the universal reach of the internet, you now have a huge potential buying market for selling photos online. This is great for the part-time or amateur photographer as you don’t need to be a professional photographer with an established history to sell your work. The quality of your photos can be evaluated openly online through submissions to photo sites or through your own website portfolio.

And not only has the opportunity to find buyers for your photos increased with the availability of the internet, but the number of buyers has increased as well. If you surf around online you will see that much the internet is visually appealing. Every big website and even smaller personal sites use stock photos on their webpages. This means that there is a large amount of potential buyers for every type of image you can imagine.

If you interested in selling photos online, you couldn’t have picked a better time. You won’t become rich from your pictures, but you could make a nice income depending on how much time you are able to invest. As with any new adventure in earning money, especially online, you will need to do a little research on how best to get started selling your photos. Luckily there are resources available which can give you a head-start and shorten the learning curve.

Memories on Slides

As we head into the holiday season, this is the time for many people to become nostalgic. Old photo albums or even slide decks are pulled out to remember the holidays from the past or maybe some old vacations.

But while you have those old photos and slides out, why not think about converting them to digital? Sure, it can be time consuming, but the results are certainly worth the effort. Instead of losing the quality of those pictures to time (or damage) or having to drag out a slide viewer, you could easily view all of those old memories on your computer once they are scanned in.

There are a few ways to do this. One, is to use a scanning service. That is easy but expensive. The second method is to purchase a slide scanner and do it yourself. Time-consuming but cheaper. And you won’t have to worry about your stuff potentially getting lost in the mail.

Whatever way you decide, slide and photo conversion is a great way to preserve old memories forever.

Tax Time and Receipts

Tax time is almost here again. If you own your own business it is a good idea to scan all of your receipts. The easiest way to do that is using either a document scanner or a receipt scanner. I like having these gadgets in my home office for anytime use but they are really great for getting organized around tax time. Check out the Neat Scanner company for mor information.
